In this book, a companion to An Offering of Leaves, much-loved Jivamukti Yoga teacher Ruth Lauer-Manenti (“Lady Ruth”) offers over forty more of the “dharma talks” that she gives at the beginning of each yoga class. Her reflections―complete with the Sanskrit verses that are the source of her studies, as well as the English transliteration and translation―are at once poignant and practical, and both minutely observed and expansive in their implications for our inner and outer lives. These teachings on yogic principles open up the emotional and spiritual pathways that allow us to deepen our yoga practice and go to the essence of the ancient wisdom contained within.

About the Author
Ruth Lauer-Manenti is the daughter of Lothar and Stefanie Lauer. Her parents came to the United States from Europe as refugees. Her father was a scientist and her mother is a published author. Both set an example of how to be a decent human being. Ruth found her way to yoga twenty-five years ago after spending a year in bed due to a serious car accident. She has been teaching yoga for the past eighteen years to students from around the world, primarily at the Jivamukti Yoga School in New York City, her home. Ruth is a devoted student and has the blessings of her teachers: Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Saraswati Jois, Sharath Rangaswami, Sharon Gannon and David Life, Dr. Jayashree, Prof. Nagaraja Rao, and Dr. Gurudath and his family. Her husband Robert is a humble tai chi master and a gentle nurse who works with those in critical care at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. Ruth also has an MFA from the Yale School of Art, and sometimes teaches drawing and painting at Dartmouth College.

Sharon Gannon is best known for creating, along with David Life, the Jivamukti Yoga Method―a path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings. A student of Brahmananda Sarasvati, Swami Nirmalananda, and K. Pattabhi Jois, she is a pioneer in teaching yoga as spiritual activism and is credited for making yoga cool and hip―relating ancient teachings of yoga to the modern world. Sharon is a musician and is a featured vocalist on many CDs including Sharanam, which is her solo album. She has produced numerous yoga-related DVDs and is the author of several books, including Jivamukti Yoga, The Art of Yoga, Cats and Dogs are People Too!, and Yoga and Vegetarianism. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, including Toward 2012, Arcana V: Music, Magic and Mysticism, What Comes After Money, Semiotexte, Yoga Journal, and Origin. She writes a monthly essay called the Focus of the Month. She resides in a 125-acre wild forest sanctuary in upstate New York.

Ruth does it again!
By Jeffrey Cohen
A must read. The perfect companion to her first volume of teachings, An Offering of Leaves. Will leave you in awe of the infinite in the smallest grain of sand. Shows how the most extraordinary sacred jewels of existence lay in the seemingly mundane moment to moment.

After I read An Offering of Leaves, I wanted more stories from Ruth. My prayers were answered! Sweeping the Dust is incredible, and again, I am going to buy many copies to give to all of my relatives and friends as gifts. A gift that definitely keeps on giving, as her messages sink in, and carry through daily life.

Simple, Beautiful, Truth
By Meredith Leblanc
I received this lovely book as a gift from a dear teacher friend; it arrived in the mail one day quite unexpectedly. I had seen this book in an email from Jivamukti and thought that I would order it after I got through a few more books on the never-ending stack of books "to-be-read". I am so grateful to my friend for sending it because when I get a book as a gift I make an effort to read it right away so I can tell them how much I enjoyed it (hopefully). I did more than I enjoy this book, I feel like it has become a part of me.

Sweeping the Dust I equate to a cozy warm sweater that makes you feel instantly at home when you wrap it around yourself. There are 42 sharings in the book all under 3 pages each. Many lead off with a verse from the Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali's Sutra, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika or sage quotes. The beauty of Lady Ruth's words is that I felt at all times her essence was radiating off of the pages, vibrating simple truths.

The day the package arrived, I opened it to to page 42 to her talk titled Nothing Belongs to Us. Here I had been offered a gift, and this gift I have been offering back through new inspiration. I have been carrying this book around with me everywhere in my purse and taking it with me into the studio when I teach. It's not that I have been quoting from it but the its merely being with me encourages me to do better.

In the last talk Lady Ruth talks about moving forward in life and about being a dedicated student. Life is not simply about yourself, but how you live in support of the world. Now as I have finished reading each talk in the book, it reaffirms my place as an eternal student experiencing the world and using each revelation as a stepping stone to the next.
