Worth every penny and more

Lots of insightful writing.
Clear discussion on abstract concepts like meaning and motivation. It was very illuminating for me, really helped me to take a look at why I do what I do.
There was tons of helpful, actionable advice—it ranged from: things like exercises (with examples from one of the author's own life) for deciding on goals; better ways to manage your resources, including money; and even how to overcome your inherent disadvantages.
That was a clear strength of the book, but a polarizing one: the authors don't shy away from pointing out uncomfortable topics—how your race and nationality may affect others' bias towards or against you in a professional setting, for example, AND most importantly, what you can do about it. Might turn away people who have a problem with this, but if you're somebody who's determined to do well and would rather confront your obstacles head-on to get success than be politically correct, the book is worth the money for sure.
I hesitate to use such a weighty adjective, but: this book is timeless. I could've very well used some of the advice four years ago, it's relevant and helpful now, and I'm 111% sure that I'll be reading through it again in two, four, ten years.

Simple shifts in core thinking

I had the pleasure of reading and giving feedback on one of the final drafts of this book.
I don't think about this book much, and (most) things don’t seem revolutionary or life-changing as you read them. Rather, it creates simple shifts in how you see the world and some core belief systems. It is written in such a way that, a year down the line, you may explain one of the ideas within to someone and forget that you even read it in this book. Many of the ideas (particularly those on network, signal, caffeine, and mental programming) are new, yet so... on point.
For instance, their concept of lenses. Your lens is how you interpret and put to use incoming information. For instance, a startup founder's lens is his startup - every input gets run through the lens of, "how can this make my startup successful?", "how is this relevant to my startup?".
It is a book that I will come back to review each year, not a one-off read.
As per usual with Marshall's writing, there are plenty of historical anecdotes that add to your understanding (and make you feel smart). Zau's presence is also felt; read his part of the introduction and then the remainder of the book. You will notice his clear thinking and simple language throughout.
I appreciated their willingness to objectively tackle politically incorrect and uncomfortable subjects. They will tell you things you don’t want to hear, and they will be correct.
While this book does not (and could not) stand as an all-in-one guide to success, I believe that the core pillars Marshall and Zau lay out (Capacity, Network, Signal, Assets, and Meaning, and the sub-groups discussed within each) are indeed the core pillars of success. Think of it rather as an overview (with unique and poignant points of view not found elsewhere) of these pillars, of which other books go into more detail (with a much narrower focus).

Life changes condensed in a book form

I've been following Sebastian around for four years now and I can say for sure that his writing was one of the biggest catalysts in terms of transformation in my life.
This new book, more expansive and better structured, is pure change for your life condensed in writing. It's impossible to read and not get out of it better, even without any action. Highly recommended.
